Fans of singer Juleon Alvarez were surprised with an important announcement. After seven years away from US soil due to authorities’ suspicions about his links to drug cartels, the Chiapas-born singer and his band Norteña are set to perform there again.

Khulion’s journey was not easy or far from the limelight. After an investigation by the US Treasury Department, authorities concluded that the regional Mexican singer had ties to Raul Flores, the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.

He was not the only public figure involved in the case. Former Mexican soccer star Rafa Marquez has also been named, and both have been identified as the cartel boss’ “front man.” As a result, their accounts were frozen, and they were banned from entering the United States

But is this the full story? In 2021, Jolyon went public with his side, claiming that the contact was due to a misunderstanding. He recounted how he entered into a partnership with a man to purchase land for future urban development, without realizing that the real estate company in question had previous ties to Flores.

“The land had been owned by a real estate company linked to the Flores family for years,” Jullion explained at the time. “I invested in it through my art company, and within 8 to 10 months, I had problems with the partner.”

After years of legal battles, the artist was finally removed from the US Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) blacklist in May 2023. He received his tourist visa the following month and celebrated by visiting the United States with his family.

Jolyon announced in October of this year that he and his band had obtained work visas, hinting at plans to bring his music to American stages.

“I’m thrilled that we now have our work visas to perform at the US mine that was the last to arrive. We are ready to plan, whether for February, March, April, March, April or May, there and I thank our fans.”

The announcement of Khulyon’s return came through his official Instagram account, where he posted a video of himself holding his passport. Next to the clip, there was a sincere comment thanking God and his fans for their patience:

“God’s timing is perfect and precise. Thank you to each and every one of you for waiting this long. It’s a gift from God!”

While details of upcoming US shows by Juleón and his band Norteña are still under wraps, his visit is expected to be scheduled in the first half of 2025, marking a new chapter in his personal and professional life.
