AFC Notes: Joey Bosa, Kareem Hunt, Broncos, Charge, Chiefs

Bronco

Broncos OLB Nik Bonitto currently leads the team in sacks with seven this season so far. Sean Payton believes Bonito has made a “leap” in his development and praised his ability to get around the rim.

“He definitely made that jump,” Payton said, via BroncosWire. “He’s getting more snaps. He’s getting more snap shots. I think the key for Nick was playing with the run and running to him. And he’s at the right weight now. He’s a guy who plays with a real good curve. He can bend his body and his resolve. He’s got a lot in his locker as far as With his quick passing, what he wants to do and how he sets someone up he really helped us.”

Chargers

Over the past few seasons, the Chargers’ defense has underperformed despite having plenty of individual talent. Los Angeles DE Joey Bosa talked about why their skills finally translated into success on the field.

“I think they’re tired of being great players individually and not accomplishing much as a team,” Bosa said, via ESPN’s Chris Rehm. “I know we’ve had some really good seasons here, but we’ve never taken it to the next level and we just feel like we have the personnel and we have all the pieces here to do that and we don’t want to miss our opportunity.”

First-year DC Jesse Minter explained his goal of making the defense as understandable as possible.

“I think we have a very teachable defense,” Minter said. “That to me is like the main goal of anything…how guys can take what you’re trying to do, and understand it well, [and] “They are able to solve problems on the field.”

Heads

In the absence of right-back Isiah Pacheco, right-back Kareem Hunt has stepped up and flourished after rejoining the team. Kansas City’s Matt Nagy talked about how both running backs will be utilized as Pacheco nears his return.

“Well, these guys just want the football, which is great. And again, they’re really good when they have the football. Again, it’s a positive for the Chiefs and the fact that they run hard, they’re physical. They’re physical,” Nagy said, via Chiefs’ Ed Easton Jr. Wire. “Pop (Isiah Pacheco) brings it. Pacheco brings the Energizer Bunny mentality of excitement and fire, and he combined that with Kareem. “It’s a great punch in itself.”
