Double the glory! Patrick Mahomes and his Kansas City Chiefs are on a winning streak, while his NWSL team, KC Current, is celebrating a major milestone. Brittany Mahomes is also in the mix, showing her support and enthusiasm.
The NWSL season is heating up, with KC Current sitting in fourth place, with 55 points. They recently posted a 3-1 win over Chicago, but that’s just the beginning of Kansas City’s celebrations!
In an exciting announcement on their official Instagram account, KC Current hailed Malawian footballer Temwa Chawinga as a Golden Boot winner after scoring 20 goals and providing 6 assists this season, putting her at the top of the scoring charts. The post celebrated her achievement with the caption: “Greatness. He is. golden. 👑 20 goals. 6 assists. @nwsl first season. 2024 Golden Boot winner, @temwa556 (star emoji).” (Via: Essentialsports)
Proud co-owner Brittany Mahomes shared an encouraging comment saying, “Let’s go,” tagging Chawinga in the post. Since joining the KC Current ownership group in January 2023, Brittany and Patrick have been dedicated to enhancing the team’s performance and facilities.
Amidst all the excitement, Patrick Mahomes is also preparing for a tough showdown on the field.
Is Patrick Mahomes in a bidding war with a basketball player?
In May 2023, power forward Jayson Tatum partnered with NFL legend Drew Brees to co-own the Los Angeles Mad Drops, a pickleball team. Now, Tatum is eyeing another investment — this time in a 16th WNBA team, as the league hints at expansion by 2028. Currently, with just 12 teams, Sportico’s Jacob Feldman reports that “Tatum has informally agreed to invest in the team if “It happens.” Until it comes to fruition.”
However, there is a twist! To secure his share, Tatum may need to outbid competitors, including Patrick and Brittany Mahomes, who are also looking to invest in Kansas City’s WNBA franchise. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, “As the WNBA continues to expand, ownership of the NWSL’s KC Current — which includes Patrick Mahomes and his wife, Brittany — has reunited with the WNBA and is in contention to bring the league’s next franchise to Kansas City.”
With a price tag of around $200 million for WNBA ownership, a competitive struggle between the Tatum and Mahomes duo could be on the horizon.
