NEW YORK (November 7, 2024) – The National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) announced today that current Kansas City Chiefs forward Temua Chawenga has been named the EA SPORTS Player of the Month for October and November by the NWSL. Media Association and NWSL on-air talent.
Chawinga scored five goals in four matches during October and November to cap off a strong scoring campaign en route to earning her third Women’s Player of the Month award and the 2024 NWSL Golden Boot, which is awarded to the league’s top scorer at the conclusion of the regular season.
The Malawi international’s record-breaking month was highlighted by her 19th tally of the season on October 12, which broke the single-season record. Chawinga completed her scoring spree with her 20th goal of the regular season in a 4-1 win over San Diego Wave FC.
Notably, Chawinga became the first player to score against all opponents in a single NFL season [with 10 or more teams] After finding the back of the net in a 4-1 win over San Diego Wave FC on October 19. The striker added 13 shots, eight of which were on target, across two months of matches.
After scoring a brace during the NWSL x LIGA MX Femenil Cup Summer Tournament on October 25 in San Antonio, Texas, Chawinga led the charge to the club’s first-ever NWSL Cup.
The striker is the first player since Kim Little in 2014 to win the Player of the Month award three times in one season.
The NWSL Player of the Month Award, presented by EA SPORTS, is presented by Ally, and is selected by the NWSL Media Association, a group of writers who cover the league on a consistent basis, and NWSL on-air broadcast talent. Prizes for October and November are based on performance during the NWSL regular season and Summer Cup matches.
