Steve Cooper faces Nottingham Forest for the first time since leaving almost a year ago and cannot escape talk about his past.

The 44-year-old was reluctant to discuss his time at the City Ground, which ended with the sack last December, in his press conference on Wednesday.

It was an understandable move as he looked to endear himself to Leicester fans, but it is impossible to erase history.

Cooper’s spell at Nottingham Forest can only be a success considering he brought them back to the Premier League after 23 years and kept them there.

This must be acknowledged, and few would envy him for doing so.

The manager is nothing but respectful and it is clear why he chose to give questions about Forest – and any comparisons with their current ownership – a deflection.

Despite back-to-back wins against Bournemouth and Southampton, Cooper feels he still needs to win the trust of some Fox fans.

A win over his old team tonight would go a long way to achieving that.
