Denzel Washington said he had a gay kiss in Gladiator II but it was cut

CNN –

Denzel Washington rules the screen on screen, but there’s one thing audiences won’t get to see him do in his latest film.

In an interview promoting Gladiator II with Gaiety, the Oscar-winning actor talked about playing Roman Emperor Macrinus. Washington was asked how gay he thought the Roman Empire was and he pointed to one particular scene.

“I kissed a guy in the movie but they took him out. They cut it off,” he said. “I think they got the chicken.”

“I kissed a man full of lips,” Washington added. “I guess they weren’t ready for that yet.”

The actor then joked about his character killing off the character shortly afterward, making it the “kiss of death.”

Director Ridley Scott returns for the sequel to the original 2000 film. Washington’s co-star, Paul Mescal, also shared a story about a kiss involving their other colleague, Pedro Pascal.

“There was a moment when we were rehearsing the fight scene with Pedro, and I had the idea at the end of the scene to kiss Pedro on the forehead,” Mescal told Entertainment Weekly. “I did that in one take, and then we get the radio messages back to Ridley [in video village]So I said: Ridley: A kiss on the forehead. Did you like it? yes or no? There was radio silence for a second. His radio goes back, and [Ridley] “I’m afraid I did,” he says.

Gladiator II hits theaters on November 22.
