Brandon Aiyuk’s season is over.
An MRI confirmed that the San Francisco 49ers wide receiver suffered a torn ACL and MCL in Sunday’s 28-18 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday. Niners coach Kyle Shanahan later confirmed the extent of Aiyuk’s injury to reporters.
Aiyuk went down with an injury in the final minute of the first half when he collided with Chiefs defensive backs Shamari Conner and Trent McDuffie after receiving a 15-yard pass from Brock Purdy. Replays showed Aiyuk’s right leg bending awkwardly on contact, and Aiyuk remained on the ground for several minutes after the collision, receiving medical attention before being helped to the sideline. He was eventually taken to the locker room.
After initial tests, Aiyuk was ruled out of the rest of the game in the third quarter. Shanahan told reporters afterward that the 49ers’ players were “concerned” that Aiyuk had suffered an ACL injury, and tests on Monday confirmed their concerns.
